BICYCLE CARGO HAULING SYSTEMS

  1. CETMA RACKS     "A low center of gravity, solid construction, and practical design make CETMAracks an ideal alternative to the popular standard of top-heavy baskets and inferior rear-mounted racks. CETMAracks are built to be functional and rigid, versatile and strong, sensible, and virtually indestructible". Check out these cool heavy-duty load carrying bicycle racks. Made in Oregon.

  2. XTRACYCLE     This system uses the bike frame with an extension kit. Manufacturer calls it a "hitchless bicycle trailer". No cutting or welding of frame members. Just bolt the Xtracycle frame onto the existing bicycle of your choice as long as it is either a 26" or 700c wheeled bike. I purchased the xtracycle frame designed for use with the hybrid bike or 700c wheel. I converted my 2006 Giant Cypress ST into a xtracycle bike. It actually works quite well and handles differently but in a very positive manner. I enjoy riding the bike. It is quite comfortable to ride. And i have increased its hauling capacity considerably. Someone wrote "I traveled through Central America on an Xtracycle and the thing worked flawlessly. Over dirt roads, on boats, along busy highways, not a bolt loosened on the whole contraption, carrying 70 lbs of weight at all times".

    Stated goals of the website:
    1. To design a bicycle trailer that is strong and versatile enough to transport the cargo that you could in a car, but simple and cheap enough that anybody could build one themselves with and for their community.
    2. To distribute the design for the trailers as widely as possible free of charge.
Keep the costs and complexity to a minimum; the trailer costs $30 in parts and can be built in 8 to 15 hours with only a drill, oxy-acetylene torch, and basic hand tools like a hacksaw and a file.
    3. Decrease our dependence on automobiles by making cheap bicycle trailers available as a viable alternative to car use.
