SOURCES FOR BICYCLE LUBRICANTS

  1. ERNESTO LUBE     Ernesto Lube... is a readily & renewable biodegradable soy-based metal lubricating fluid made for your bike chain... and for you to not feel guilty about the environment. AKA, "bicycle bike lube". It's on par with synthetic oils - yet, there's a degree of friendliness to the environment. Lubrication is what keeps metals from getting all weird. And ERNESTO BIKE LUBE, being that its healthy for the environment, will do you good for a while, because it lasts a while. Just wipe off the excess and you're good to go... for a while.

  2. JIG-A-LOO     "Unlike traditional lubricants, Jig-A-Loo contains no oil, grease, wax or detergent. Protects bicycle frames from salt water corrosion. Cleans rust off sprockets. Invisible all around lubricant. Lubricates, repels water and more". "It's the best dry lube I have ever used on my mtn bike chain, smooth shifting!!! Amazing product. It replaced WD40 in all applications in my household and more. Just a few words of warning:   it's not for use on clear plastic. I learned the hard way by ruining my motorcycle windshield".

Also, another viewer of this page sent me an email with the following information: "You might want to place a warning that JIG-A-LOO is solvent-based. I applied it to my new bicycle chain, cassette and other moving parts (where there springs and pivoting joints). It etched the plastic disc (changed it from transparent to a hazy white) which is located between the lowest rear gear and the wheel spokes. And, unlike some other rust-proofing sprays I tried, it also instantly dissolves Styrofoam. I'm sure it's a great product for metal parts but I think your should warn you readers from not spraying plastic parts and perhaps overspraying onto the painted frame (fortunately my overspray did not seem to react with my frame's paint nor painted lubricated parts-- but maybe the car wax coating which I had applied prior to lubing protected the frame). I initially panicked and was relieved to see that it did not seem to dissolve hard plastics like the little wheels on the rear derailleur". Supposed to be available at the Home Depot and Wal-Mart.

  5. BOESHIELD   "Unique solvent parrafin wax formula penetrates, cleans, and displaces moisture. Dries to a thin film that lubricates and protects for hundreds of miles. will not wash off or pick up dirt. Application: Apply and allow to dry for 2 hours or more, wipe off excess. Use on Drive Chain, Derailleur, Brake Cables, Shift Cables, Caliper Pivots, Seat Posts, Spoke Nipples, Inside Frame". Available at Sears.

  6. WHITE LIGHTNING   "Original White Lightning is a totally clean, completely dry, wax lubricant. Because it contains no oil, White Lightning does not absorb dirt and grime. Original White Lightning goes on wet for deep penetration, but then quickly forms a dry, clean, lubricating wax film. As a result, bike parts and especially drivetrain components work better and last longer. The true genius of Original White Lightning is the lubricant’s "Self-Cleaning" technology, so unique it has been awarded multiple patents".
