Singlespeed bicycles...   Cool to ride around town and to work.

I define a singlespeed bicycle as one equipt with a single cog mounted on a "freewheel" not a fixed gear bike or track bike as they are sometimes called. I have left out 29er bikes because most or all of them are being built for off road riding and i limit my coverage to street bikes only.
  1. OsoBike OSOBIKE   Very nice Chrome Moly Steel Frame bike. Another singlespeed equipped with coaster brake. You can purchase additional front brake if you want.

    The Osobike is a mix between a cruiser and a road bike. It is simple and easy to maintain like a cruiser, but fast like a road bike. It has only one speed, so you can spend your time riding instead of thinking about what gear you should be in. There are no cables because the brake is in the pedals (coaster brake).   5. Alien Bikes ALIEN BIKES   This is a new website offering singlespeed parts. These people do not sell complete bicycles - they specialize in some high quality basic parts, like cranksets,pedals, headsets, wheelsets, framesets, hubs, brakes & levers, and cogs & chains. Nice website.

  6. Motobecane Messenger Singlespeed MOTOBECANE   I think this is the only singlespeed bike that they sell. It is called the "Messenger" model. You can find it in the road bikes (link) category on their USA website. This bike utilizes standard 700c tires & wheels.

  7. 700c Lager SE BIKES   This company specializes in BMX bikes but also carries a line of nice singlespeed bikes in both 700c and 26in. wheels. The picture on the right is of their 700c Lager Matte Black. They seem to have about 6 different models available: 700c Premium Ale, 700c Lager Matte Black, 700c Lager White, 700c Draft Lite, 700c Draft, 29" Stout.   8. Swobo Sanchez SWOBO   This business has about 6 very neat singlespeed bicycles for sale - they have grown over the months since i posted this link to their site. Nice bikes. They are selling bikes. That's usually a good sign. The picture on the right is of their "Sanchez" model.

     
  9. NYC Bikes Mellow Yellow NYCBIKES   This small business located in Brooklyn NY puts together for sale these neat bikes which include a number of singlespeeders. They ship custom built bikes anywhere and check out their very reasonable prices. Picture on the right is of their singlespeed model "Mellow Yellow".

  10. Pompino Singlespeed ON-ONE   Based in England with a very good website and lots of goodies. They sell a lot of single-speed items including complete bicycles. They ship to the US and in fact have a warehouse or office or representative in the US. The picture on the right is of on-one's singlespeed 700c Pompino bike.

  11. Giant Bowery '72 GIANT BICYCLES   Giant sells a nice looking single-speed called the "Bowery". Located on their website at: Find your bike > Lifestyle > Metro. They actually have about 3 different models. The picture on the right is of their "Bowery '72" model.

    "We are building and shipping them AQAP, but the assembly is still fastidious. Either Mark or Jay builds your bike. Rich goes over the wheels. Eric boxes them up so well you'll think it's a shame to undo his work. There is minimal reassembly required. If you can't do it, take it to a shop. It will take a pro 12 minutes to get the bike up-and-running. Everything goes out tuned, adjusted, so if you get a bill for "adjusted brakes" or "trued rear wheel", somethings as fishy as the day is long. All you need to do is mount pedals, seat post, front wheel, hook up the straddle wire on the brakes, and put the stem in and tighten it. Piece of cake."

It's particularly useful for bike frames with vertical dropouts, because on those frames you can't just move the rear wheel to take up slack in the chain."

  16. Phil Wood Hubs PHIL WOOD   They sell a MTB singlespeed hubs. They are a famous company - well known to many bicyclists around the world. Their hubs are used for building up bicycle wheels. They have models that can be used as a fixed cog setup or used with a freewheel setup.

  17. Surly Steamroller SURLY BIKES   They sell complete bikes, framesets and parts. In my opinion Surly is a little different than most and their product line reflects it. But not bad - just different. They have what appears to be several different single-speed framesets. Real nice stuff though. The picture on the right is of the Surly Steamroller.

  26. Mark V Singlespeed IRO CYCLE   They have two singlespeed bikes that i can find. One is the picture on the right, their Mark V Singlespeed Build-A-Bike. The other model is the Phoenix Singlespeed Build-A-Bike.

  28. Sycip's Javaboy SYCIP (see-cip)   "Java Boy" is the model of interest. Looks to be a very well made singlespeed. They also sell a singlespeed track bike called the "Roadster". This beautiful bike has been around for awhile. Sycip is located in Santa Rosa, California.

  29. Bianchi San Jose Singlespeed BIANCHI BICYCLES   Bianchi has at least two singlespeed model bicycles. The picture on the right is of their "San Jose" singlespeed. It is equipt with a Shimano SF-MX30 DX Single Freewheel 17T x 3/32". The other model is called their "San Jose Pro", a little more expensive.
