Singlespeed bicycles... Cool to ride around town and to work.
I define a singlespeed bicycle as one equipt with a single cog mounted on a "freewheel" not a fixed gear bike or track bike as they are sometimes called.
I have left out 29er bikes because most or all of them are being built for off road riding and i limit my coverage to street bikes only.

OSOBIKE
Very nice Chrome Moly Steel Frame bike. Another singlespeed equipped with coaster brake. You can purchase additional front brake if you want.
The Osobike is a mix between a cruiser and a road bike. It is simple and easy to maintain like a cruiser, but fast like a road bike. It has only one speed, so you can spend your time riding instead of thinking about what gear you should be in. There are no cables because the brake is in the pedals (coaster brake). The design is simple and modern. The tires are narrow and high pressure. All of these features lead to a low maintenance bike that is a pleasure to ride and to view. The Osobike — fast like a road bike, low maintenance like a cruiser. Osobike was conceived by Shane Stock, a business person and cyclist from Laredo, Texas. The frame for the bike is built by a leading frame manufacturing company renowned for their steel frames who produce frames for many major bicycle companies. The components are of high quality. You are saving by getting quality components without paying for brand names.

SALSA CYCLES
Very nice singlespeed offered by Salsa Cycles.
"Casseroll Single" is the name of this 2008 model.
"Simple and to the point, Casseroll Single gets you where you want to go with singlespeed gearing. A singlespeed road bike you say? Yup. We're talking one gear that you pedal fast or slow, up hills and down, and all around town.
Casseroll Single starts out with our extremely versatile Casseroll frameset. Crafted of Salsa Classico CroMoly, the frameset provides the resilient feel that steel is famous for. It feels good while you ride it!
Designed around long reach brakes, the frameset allows you to run nice large road tires: 700c x 37mm without fenders and 700c x 32mm with full fenders. Big tires may add some weight, but we feel the extra comfort is well worth it while riding on rough roads or well-worn paths.
Our partially polished, stainless steel, forward-entry horizontal dropouts make for easy chain tensioning. Interested in running fixed? Flip-flop the rear Surly New hub and add a track cog. Finishing touches include fender and rear rack mount braze-ons, and a pump peg.
Fine, functional parts like Surly New hubs laced to Salsa Delgado Cross rims, long-reach Tektro 521 AG brakes R20 brake levers, Sugino RD2 singlespeed crankset with 48T ring, and Continental Contact 37mm tires keep you rolling. The WTB Silverado Race saddle with Salsa embroidery, Salsa Moto Ace Short & Shallow bars, and painted-to-match Salsa CroMoto stem top it off.
Casseroll Single is all about riding while not fretting over what gear you're in. Just roll up those pants cuffs, spin those pedals, and go somewhere. Enjoy the simple life, try riding single.
Casseroll Single. Getting the job done... simply."

ALIEN BIKES This is a new website offering singlespeed parts.
These people do not sell complete bicycles - they specialize in some high quality basic parts, like cranksets, pedals, headsets, wheelsets, framesets, hubs, brakes & levers, and cogs & chains. Nice website.
"Alien Bikes exists to provide fixed gear purists with the gear they need, but can't get locally. It's nice to support your local bike shop, but you can't expect them to have all manner of fixed gear stuff and expect it to be inexpensive too. By all means, buy your tires, your bars, your seats, your whatever at the LBS, and then turn with a clean conscience to Alien Bikes for your real fix.
We at Alien Bikes have chosen and spec'ed our products not based on some calculated market research, but rather based on what we want to ride. (When I said we, you know I mean't me...) We figure that if we want bikes like this, somebody else does too. Welcome. Have a look around."

MASI BICYCLES Check out their "Speciale Fixed" model. A very lovely single-speeder. They have about 4 different models. The "SoulVille SS", "Speciale Fixed LTD", "Speciale Fixed", & the "Speciale Commuter".
Pictured is the Masi "Speciale Commuter, US MSRP: $795". Look under the "Urban" tab.
"Designed around possibilities, not limitations, the Masi Speciale Commuter can be turned into the bike you've always dreamed about—if it isn't already. Rack and fender mounts on its long, stable steel frame make it a practical machine among similarly high-spirited sprinters. The flip-flop rear wheel with fixed and freewheel cog options, shifter bosses on the down tube and forged dropouts with derailleur hanger offer even more possibilities for the unrepentant tinkerer."

RIVENDELL BICYCLE WORKS
This appears to be a popular model and they make regular changes to the bike. The picture on the right is of a Quickbeam owned by a private party purchased at an earlier date.
Quickbeams are Here.
April 23, 2009
Sneak peak can be found here. "We are building and shipping them AQAP, but the assembly is still fastidious. Either Mark or Jay builds your bike. Rich goes over the wheels. Eric boxes them up so well you'll think it's a shame to undo his work. There is minimal reassembly required. If you can't do it, take it to a shop. It will take a pro 12 minutes to get the bike up-and-running. Everything goes out tuned, adjusted, so if you get a bill for "adjusted brakes" or "trued rear wheel", somethings as fishy as the day is long. All you need to do is mount pedals, seat post, front wheel, hook up the straddle wire on the brakes, and put the stem in and tighten it. Piece of cake."
-
FIXED INNOVATIONS
Included here also is:
"FixMeUp! is software that helps you figure out what gears will fit on your fixed-gear or single-speed bike. It's particularly useful for bike frames with vertical dropouts, because on those frames you can't just move the rear wheel to take up slack in the chain."
"This site is primarily for people who want to convert their multi-speed bicycles with vertical rear dropouts to fixed-gear or single-speed use. It takes you through the process of selecting gears that will fit your frame, and makes suggestions for what to do if you aren't happy with the gear choices for your frame. I should mention: I've never seen a frame that couldn't be converted! It's not that hard."

SURLY BIKES They sell complete bikes, framesets and parts. In my opinion Surly is a little different than most and their product line reflects it. But not bad - just different. They have what appears to be several different single-speed framesets. Real nice stuff though. The picture on the right is of the Surly Steamroller.
"The Steamroller got a fresh paintjob, black parts, and black graphics this year. We think it's pretty snazzy. Paint and decals don't make a bike ride well, though, and the reason this bike continues to be popular is because it is a well-built, durable bike that goes fast and rides smooth. Designed as a singlespeed street bike, it's as fine an urban trawler as you will find. We offer it as a fixed gear because that's what it was designed to do (well before fixies became popular, we might add). We include a front brake because having a brake is a good idea. If you want to add a rear brake you can, just be warned there are no rear housing stops."

"For those who aren't familiar with our Flatbed - it is a premium load carrying attachment for your bicycle. Imagine carrying stuff on your bike! Made of tubular anodized aluminum, and hardwood slats, the Flatbed can hold up to 25 lbs. The Flatbed mounts on rigid forks only. VAN DESSEL SPORTS As far as i can tell they sell one beautiful singlespeed bike: The famous "Country Road Bob". My absolute favorite bicycle.
"Our most beloved bike. Year after year, we fall for its single-speed charms. And we're not the only ones. Perhaps you heard what the folks at GQ said: "...the most perfect bike we've seen...you will rediscover the pure happiness you felt when you first mastered riding a two wheeler." That line still gets us all choked up. And how do you improve on "perfection"? Well, somehow we did it. A shade lighter and with the curvy style it had years ago, now along with charm, our Country Road Bob is kinda sexy too. Go ahead, swoon. Complete Bike - $999." 5-5-09.

IRO CYCLE
They have two singlespeed bikes that i can find. One is the picture on the right, their Mark V Singlespeed Build-A-Bike. The other model is the Phoenix Singlespeed Build-A-Bike.
"So in October 2002 I started IRO CYCLE. In September of 2005 IRO CYCLE moved from Staten Island NY to Middleburg Pa. My goal is to produce quality products at affordable prices. I am meeting that goal. We produce many styles of fixed gear and single speed. We are constantly introducing new models and improving the existing ones. Nothing hits production until it passes my satisfaction. I design all IRO frames and most of the parts myself. I have samples made and then beat the hell out of them, making adjustments as necessary, always keeping the price right.
And one your order is received and paid, it no longer belongs to me, it belongs to you. The way I look at it, you're trusting me with your property until we deliver it.
And that's my story. I ride everywhere I can, give me a reason to ride and I will."

SYCIP (see-cip)
"Java Boy" is the model of interest. Looks to be a very well made singlespeed. They also sell a singlespeed track bike called the "Roadster". This beautiful bike has been around for awhile. Sycip is located in Santa Rosa, California.
"We're not always racing - some of us never even want to, but we do have a passion for bikes and their history. The Java Boy is our homage to the beautiful turn-of-the (last) century european commuters as well as the american cruisers of yesteryear. Plus, it kicks arse for 3am donut runs.
The Java Boy is the finest of cruisers, capable of maneuvering around city buses and stray pedestrians with ease. It allows you to bust your move in style by mixing the 700c speed and quickness of a road bike with the upright comfort and adaptability of a fine english touring bike.
Our custom bent tubing allows for good ergonomics and sweet retro-style and can come in a few different combinations of bent and straight tubing. Single speed or internally geared hubs are popular choices for the clean lines. We can spice up your morning brew with wood fenders, an aluminum basket or some sweet paniers and a horn or two. It's all about the way you like your Java."
